I currently teach community nurses IV therapy and they are adminstering antiobiotics via CVC but there is an increasing number who are going to receive their therapy via peripheral lines. Does anyone have guidelines on the management of antibiotic extravasation?

Samantha, we are currently undergoing the process of characterising all IV drugs and grouping them by therapeutic groups, including antibiotics, in order to assess their extravasation injury risk and therefore develop treatment protocols. This work is ongoing and our results will appear on the website in future.
